American designer Rick Owens went where no other designer went before. At Men’s Fashion Week in Paris on Thursday, he sent male models strutting down the catwalk, some of them, with exposed penises peeking out from their clothes. According to Women’s Wear Daily, the “deconstructed tunics — cut into pieces and put back together again – lay bare those parts that needed most protection.” And yes, it really looked like that.

People sitting in the front row probably got a show they weren’t prepared for and I’m not sure if in a way, this form of artistic expression actually took away from the clothes themselves.

I mean how could you not look at penis when it’s right in front of you?

Sure, we’re more used to female body parts being exposed as part of the design and maybe this isn’t fair. But somehow, to me anyway, a see-through blouse or an exposed butt cheek is less offensive to look at than a flaccid penis.

In an email to Women’s Wear Daily, the designer was unapologetic about his decision to let men “free their willy.”

Full Frontal Fashion Fails

“I pass classical marble statues of nude and draped figures in the park every day, and they are a vision of sensuality — yes, but also of grace and freedom,” said Owens in an email to WWD. “As a participant in one of our most progressive aesthetic arenas, am I not allowed to use this imagery? Is it only appropriate for a Michael Fassbender movie? I thought this might be an interesting question.”
