When shampooing your hair, do you associate bubbles with cleanliness? What if you found out the ingredients in the bubbles could potentially harm you in the long-term, would you still use the shampoo? Would you try an alternative product if you knew it was better in every way possible?
Jenise Lee strongly believes that you would, in fact, she’s so convinced, she’s made it easy for you find these products. Lee created Clean Care, a company that administers a “clean seal of approval” for brands that don’t contain toxic or harmful ingredients. Her goal was to streamline the process for brands to get their message out and for consumers to be able to easily identify these brands.
I realized that women were not surprised that there were harmful chemicals in the products that they used every day, but it’s too tedious and overwhelming to learn, says Lee.
So she took the guesswork out of the process. Now she’s ready to tackle another obstacle: perception. She says clean beauty products still have a stigma to them for being inferior to industry standards, but that this simply isn’t true.

So she’s teamed up with the Green Living Show, Canada’s largest consumer show dedicated to healthy and sustainable living and created the first annual Clean Care Beauty Awards. Out of hundreds of entries, 12 finalists have been chosen and will battle it out for bragging rights.
“I think at this point if there are safer alternatives, why not use them? “says Lee. “Why wait a couple of decades for studies to confirm yay or nay?”
If you’re in Toronto, you can attend the Green Living Show from March 27-29. The Clean Beauty Awards take place at 6:15 p.m. on March 27.
